Post -Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that develops in some people after extremely traumatic events in which the person felt he or she was in mortal danger.
People with PTSD may re-live the event via intrusive memories, flashbacks and nightmares, avoiding anything that reminds them of the trauma. These anxious feelings disrupt their lives, leaving them in a constant state of heightened arousal.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a disorder of the brain and behaviour. It causes severe anxiety and involves both obsessions and compulsions that take a lot of time in ritual and repetition. A person with this type of anxiety may repeatedly wash their hands in an effort to ease stressful feelings.
OCD creates a vicious cycle that interferes with a person’s daily life. Treatment often includes medications as well as psychological treatment which includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
